Find out about salaries following a Federal Certificate in Logistics in Switzerland, pay rates by role, and variations based on experience, canton and sector.

The Federal Certificate of Competence as a Logistics Specialist enables experienced professionals to develop their skills in workflow management, process organisation, logistics tools and team leadership.

But what sort of salary can someone with this certificate actually expect to earn in Switzerland?

There is no salary that is automatically linked to a qualification. Salary depends mainly on the role held, experience, responsibilities, the canton, the sector and the size of the company.

Nevertheless, the various salary surveys and available data do allow us to identify certain orders of magnitude. For roles such as Logistics Specialist or Team Leader, salaries are frequently around CHF 75,000 to CHF 90,000 gross per year. For roles such as Warehouse Manager or Logistics Manager, they may reach or exceed CHF 100,000 per year.

The Brevet can therefore go hand in hand with a pay rise, particularly when it leads to a role with greater responsibilities.

What does the Federal Certificate in Logistics offer?

The Federal Certificate is part of the Swiss higher vocational education and training system.

It is aimed at people who already have experience in one of the areas of the supply chain: procurement, production, warehousing, distribution or disposal.

Whilst a Logistics Technician (CFC) is primarily involved in operational tasks, the Logistics Specialist focuses more on organising, monitoring and improving processes.

Their skills may include, amongst other things:

  • the analysis and optimisation of workflows; ;
  • procurement processes; ;
  • stock management; ;
  • storage and distribution; ;
  • the use of ERP and WMS systems; ;
  • logistics information management; ;
  • quality and safety; ;
  • project management; ;
  • team leadership; ;
  • continuous improvement.

Holders of the Brevet qualification can therefore progress to roles in which they no longer merely carry out tasks, but also help to organise and optimise them.

What is the salary for each role?

Salaries vary considerably depending on the role held. It is therefore more useful to compare the roles that are available or feasible given one’s experience than to look for a single «Federal Certificate salary».

Annual orders of magnitude

FunctionIndicative annual gross range
Logistics Officer (CFC) / Warehouse ClerkCHF 55,000 – 73,000
Logistics specialistCHF 72,000 – 96,000
Logistics Team Leader / Dock SupervisorCHF 70,000 – 88,000
Warehouse ManagerCHF 75,000 – 120,000
Logistics Managerapprox. CHF 90,000 to over CHF 120,000, depending on the scope
Import-Export CoordinatorCHF 55,000 – 105,000

These ranges are based on a cross-reference of various Swiss salary sources and similar job titles. They should be regarded as guidelines, and not as official guidelines.

What is the salary for a logistics specialist?

For a role as a Logistics Specialist without significant departmental responsibility, various sources frequently indicate that the salary is around CHF 75,000 to CHF 85,000 gross per year.

Depending on experience, the company and the role, the salary may then rise to CHF 90,000 or more.

Simulations based on Salarium, the Federal Statistical Office’s statistical calculator, also shows that those with higher vocational qualifications can achieve higher levels of pay than comparable individuals with only basic vocational training.

However, it is important to remain cautious: Salarium produces an estimate based on specific parameters. It is therefore not a guaranteed salary for a Brevet holder.

What is the salary for a logistics team leader?

The Team Leader is generally responsible for the day-to-day coordination of several staff members.

Their responsibilities may include:

  • the division of tasks; ;
  • monitoring deadlines; ;
  • safety; ;
  • quality; ;
  • priority management; ;
  • the resolution of operational problems; ;
  • monitoring the team’s performance.

The available studies place this type of function within an approximate range of CHF 70,000 to CHF 85,000 per year, with variations depending on the sector, the size of the team and experience.

What is the salary for a warehouse manager?

The Warehouse Manager generally oversees a wider area of responsibility.

He may be responsible for:

  • stock levels; ;
  • inventories; ;
  • teams; ;
  • safety; ;
  • equipment; ;
  • performance indicators; ;
  • costs; ;
  • of the site’s overall structure.

The various sources consulted put this figure at between approximately CHF 75,000 and CHF 120,000 gross per annum, with a mid-range figure of around CHF 95,000 for certain roles.

What is the salary for a Logistics Manager?

The role of Logistics Manager generally involves overseeing a department or a significant area of logistics.

According to data from jobs.ch, the average annual salary in Switzerland is around CHF 91,000.

Some salary surveys, particularly those focusing on managerial roles in large companies, show figures that can exceed CHF 100,000 and rise even further for senior positions.

However, the exact function remains the decisive factor.

A logistics manager in an SME does not necessarily manage the same budget, the same number of staff or the same geographical area as a logistics manager working for a multinational.

What is the pay gap between a CFC and a higher vocational qualification?

An example based on Salarium illustrates the potential difference between two qualification levels.

In the simulation published by Ausbildung-Weiterbildung:

  • A person with initial vocational training earns an estimated median salary of approximately CHF 5,677 per month ;
  • For those with higher vocational qualifications, the estimate is around CHF 6,665 per month.

The difference is therefore close to CHF 988 per month, which amounts to nearly CHF 11,856 per year in this example.

This comparison should, however, be interpreted with caution.

It does not mean that a person automatically receives an additional CHF 988 as soon as they obtain their Federal Certificate. The estimate depends, in particular, on:

  • age; ;
  • in the region; ;
  • in the sector; ;
  • the hierarchical level; ;
  • of the post; ;
  • the size of the company; ;
  • the level of training.

The main benefit of the Brevet lies, above all, in the opportunity to take on roles with greater responsibilities.

What factors influence salary?

Two people who hold the same qualification may receive very different salaries.

Work experience

Length of service plays an important role.

A professional who has just obtained their qualification and has a few years’ experience does not generally earn the same salary as a specialist who has been working in the sector for fifteen or twenty years.

In particular, this experience helps to develop skills that are difficult to acquire through training alone:

  • management; ;
  • negotiation; ;
  • problem-solving; ;
  • knowledge of the area; ;
  • budget management; ;
  • project management; ;
  • supplier relations.

The level of responsibility

Management is also a key factor.

A Specialist without a team, a Team Leader and a Logistics Manager do not have the same level of responsibility.

It is often this career progression that accounts for a significant proportion of pay rises.

The canton

Pay levels may vary from region to region.

The data available for certain logistics management roles reveal, in particular, discrepancies between several cantons:

  • Zurich: around CHF 98,800; ;
  • Basel: around CHF 96,000; ;
  • Aargau: around CHF 101,400; ;
  • Bern: around CHF 93,600; ;
  • Vaud: around CHF 85,900; ;
  • Geneva: around CHF 80,600; ;
  • Fribourg: around CHF 79,800; ;
  • Valais: around CHF 76,500.

These figures are for guidance only. The number and type of posts recorded vary from region to region.

The size of the company

Large companies and multinationals sometimes offer higher salaries, particularly when the role involves:

  • managing several teams; ;
  • responsibility for several sites; ;
  • an international dimension; ;
  • substantial budgets; ;
  • bonuses; ;
  • additional benefits.

Technical skills

Certain skills can enhance a candidate’s value in the job market:

  • SAP; ;
  • ERP; ;
  • WMS; ;
  • customs; ;
  • import and export; ;
  • Incoterms; ;
  • Lean Management; ;
  • project management; ;
  • GDP regulations; ;
  • data analysis.

Opening hours

Logistics roles may involve night work, shift work or working at weekends.

These constraints may result in bonuses or supplements that increase the total remuneration.

However, a distinction must be made between these allowances and the salary directly linked to the post.

Which sectors offer the highest salaries?

The sector also plays a role.

Pharmaceuticals and Medical Technology

Pharmaceutical logistics is subject to stringent requirements in terms of quality, traceability and compliance.

Mastering the Good Distribution Practices (GDP) and regulated processes may be particularly sought after.

Some salary surveys indicate that, for experienced candidates or managerial roles, remuneration can range from CHF 90,000 and CHF 145,000.

However, these levels relate to specific roles and cannot be applied across the board to all logistics jobs in the sector.

Watchmaking and luxury goods

The handling of high-value components and the need for precision can also justify high salaries for qualified candidates.

Some studies of the Swiss market put the range of functions tested at around CHF 100,000 or more, depending on the role.

Chemistry, energy and industry

In these sectors, logistics roles may require a good understanding of industrial processes and, in some cases, specific regulatory requirements.

Those in management or leadership roles can therefore earn substantial salaries.

Retail trade

Large retailers operate logistics centres handling large volumes and employing large teams.

In particular, they offer the following features:

  • Team leader; ;
  • Warehouse manager; ;
  • Coordinator; ;
  • Logistics Manager.

Transport and 3PL/4PL service providers

Companies specialising in transport and contract logistics offer career paths ranging from operational roles to site management.

The larger the scope of operations, the greater the human, financial and operational responsibilities become.

What career opportunities are there after the Federal Certificate?

The Brevet does not automatically guarantee access to a specific post.

The skills developed do, however, correspond to several possible career paths.

In the canton of Vaud, the FONPRO also provides for various support schemes for vocational training.

These grants have their own eligibility criteria and must be assessed separately from federal funding.

Conclusion: what sort of salary can you realistically expect after the Brevet?

The Federal Certificate of Competence as a Logistics Specialist may lead to a move into more skilled roles, but no specific salary is automatically linked to the title.

For roles such as Logistics Specialist or Team Leader, the various data available suggest that salaries typically range around CHF 75,000 to CHF 90,000 gross per year.

For roles such as Warehouse Manager or Logistics Manager, salaries may range from CHF 90,000 to CHF 120,000 or more, depending on the experience, the canton, the company and the sector.

The main value of the Brevet therefore lies in what it can enable you to build on subsequently: qualifications + experience + skills + new responsibilities = potential for career progression and pay rises.
